Innovation for Sustainable Production - Bruges 22-25 April 2008

Official opening

The official opening of the event is foreseen on Wednesday April 23 2008, at the site of Ancient Saint-John's in Bruges.

That evening, at the famous Concert Hall in Bruges, one of the most prominent music complexes in Flanders, the link between innovation and sustainability will be highlighted by:

  • An interview with Alain Hubert just returning from the South Pole where he erected the new Belgian scientific South Pole base using only renewable energy and sustainable technologies in the coldest climate on the planet.
  • Spectacular footage of the construction of the Belgian South Pole base.
  • A debate between politicians and industry on the relation between innovation and sustainability with the collaboration of Kurt Vandenberghe, deputy head of Cabinet of EU-commissioner Potocnik, Flemish minister-president Kris Peeters and high-level representatives of Janssen Pharmaceutica (Jan Liessens, Vice President - Global Environmental, Health and Safety) and Umicore (Marc Van Sande, CTO Umicore).
  • A virtuoso piano recital by Liebrecht Vanbeckevoort, finalist of the Queen Elisabeth Competition for piano 2007. (Visit website)
